Autism and 5 Other Ailments Proposed for Medical Marijuana Use

MN Marijuana Kids

Autism may soon be added to the list of qualifying conditions for medical marijuana in Minnesota. The Minnesota Department of Health has the issue under consideration.

One family, the Krammer family, noticed immediate improvements in autism symptoms, according to Fox 9 News. Kammy Krammer’s 15-year old son is approved to use medical marijuana for severe anxiety and Tourette Syndrome, but it also helps reduce his symptoms of autism. From day one, the Krammers have noticed favorable changes from medical marijuana.

Kammy Krammer said, “Elliot suffered from debilitating anxiety and that affected every aspect of his life. He had hundreds of tics every single day and was suffering with peer relationships because of that. He was embarrassed and he couldn’t control them.”

Tourette syndrome is included on Minnesota’s qualifying conditions list. Part of the issue with approving medical marijuana for autism is that there is only one case that has been brought to the Department of Health’s attention regarding the decrease in symptoms following the use of medical marijuana.

A report is expected on November 1st regarding proposed medical conditions to be added to the state’s qualifying conditions list.

As well as autism, the Minnesota Department of Health is also considering adding these medical conditions:

  • Arthritis
  • Depression
  • Diabetes
  • Insomnia
  • PTSD

Within the next month, a decision to add or decline adding these conditions will be made.
